Opening Word of Father Vojtěch – September Parish Newsletter

Dear friends,

I must admit that writing this introduction has been a bit of a challenge for me. I've always skipped introductions, so I don't really know what they should contain. However, now that I have the opportunity, I would like to share my first impressions of Sušice and its surroundings.

When Bishop [Bishop's Name] told me that he would like me to move to Sušice for a while, I immediately opened a map to find out where it was located. I quickly realized that it was probably the furthest point in our diocese from my home in Pelhřimov or Českých Budějovic, where I often go. So, I must admit that I felt a little anxious. Would it be okay? Could I handle the challenges of being on the periphery, with many parishes and few people, the administrative burden of my four parishes in Šumava, and the completely new environment?

Fortunately, I have always heard good things about the parishes in Sušice, and I must say that this has been confirmed – at least so far. Above all, I have received a very warm welcome everywhere – in the large Kašperskohorský church, in the small Hartmanice community, in the House of St. Vitus, but also in Sušice itself. I would like to thank you for many kind gestures – from a simple smile or encouraging words, to an invitation for a drink or help with painting the apartment. I really appreciate it, and I must say that it makes my start here much easier.

I also feel a strong pastoral potential here. I have only been here for a month, but I am beginning to see that there is a desire for God and spiritual life – not only among adults, but also among young people. If I can be of help in your search, I would be very happy to do so.

And then there is Šumava. As an amateur athlete, I love nature and whenever I have the opportunity to run or cycle in it, I take advantage of it.

So, what is my first impression of Sušice and its surroundings? It is definitely positive – and that is mainly thanks to you. I am looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.
