“We brought our mom home from the hospital and thought we would lose her within a month. That month turned into five years.”
Mrs. Hana, who lives in a small village on the edge of Šumava, openly shares her experience. Thanks to her determination, the support of her family, and the assistance of the nursing service from Charity Sušice, her mother was able to stay at home until the end of her life. Dignified, safe, and loved.
The decision to allow a loved one the chance to live out their final days at home is a beautiful yet very challenging choice. Our recognition goes to all those who embark on this journey.
“Mom was a very energetic person,” recalls Mrs. Hana. When she fell ill, the family prepared for the worst. “We brought our mom home from the hospital and thought we would lose her within a month. That month turned into five years.”
At first, mom managed with little support from the family, but eventually, her strength diminished. At that moment, the decision was made to seek help. “I myself have an operated heart valve. I needed help. And I was glad I called. We agreed on Friday, and the girls started coming on Monday,” Mrs. Hana describes.
The nursing service from Charity Sušice assisted with daily hygiene, dressing, mobility support, and ensuring a safe environment at home. The care gradually adapted to the current needs of Mrs. Hana's mom – from one visit a day to up to three visits daily in the final stages of her life.
Besides practical support, human contact and psychological support brought by the workers were equally important. In our care, we always emphasize not only professionalism but also kindness, calmness, and respect.
For Mrs. Hana, it was important to know that she was not alone in caregiving. “I told myself that as soon as I couldn’t manage anymore, we would have to find another solution. And when I saw how the girls cared, I knew she wouldn’t have received such care elsewhere,” she says.
Her mother passed away at home, in a familiar environment, among her loved ones. And that is a moment that Mrs. Hana remembers with peace. “It was the best thing I could do for her. We managed it.”
Mrs. Hana's experience shows that caring for a loved one is not just about daily tasks. It is about relationships, courage, patience, and love. At the same time, it reminds us of how important it is not to try to manage everything alone. “Mainly, you have to know how to ask for help. And do it in time.”
From experience, we know how much strength and determination caring for a loved one requires. Every day, we see what it means to be there during difficult times, whether as a daughter, spouse, or grandchild. That’s why we’re here. To ensure you don’t face this alone.
